Evicted land recovered in Narayanganj

Today, 16th February, 2022 in the morning, starting their works from the 1st Railgate to east side the Narayanganj Telephone Office of the Narayanganj City, the Bangladesh Railway Authority conducted an eviction drive against the illegal shops built on the railway land on the eastern side of Narayanganj Railway Station. At that time, hundreds of poor shopkeepers who had been running their business on the land for a long time were evicted. During the raid, some shop was demolished which was permanent wall along with the Sri Sri Shitala temple on the railway land.

 

General secretary of the district puja Udjapan Parishad , complained Against the eviction and alleged that some parts of the front of the temple had been demolished despite the ban imposed by the high court.

On the other hand, Dhaka Divisional Executive Magistrate Mohammad Shafiullah of Bangladesh Railway’s Land Property Department said that about 100 illegally built slums and houses on the railway land and about a hundred shops built on the road were evicted.

It is to be mentioned that in the eviction operation on Wednesday morning, 16th February 2022, about 47,200 square feet of land was recovered and a banner was put up on the same land in the name of Bangladesh Railway Employees Welfare Trust claiming its own property.

 

On the other hand, on 14th February, 2022, under the banner of Bhumi Raksha Andolan Parishad Narayanganj, a human chain program was held in front of Narayanganj Press Club building to make protest on the land to build a market in the name of welfare trust without using the land adjacent to the railway station for public interest.
