National surfing competition begins in Cox’s Bazar

The 8th National Surfing Competition was inaugurated in Cox’s Bazar on Friday (April 3, 2026). State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque inaugurated the grand event organized at Laboni Point in the coastal city of Cox’s Bazar at 11 am.

 

Lutfar Rahman Kajal, Member of Parliament for Cox’s Bazar-3 constituency, Bangladesh Surfing Association President Major General (Retd.) AKM Mujahid Uddin, Senior Vice President Khandaker Saiful Islam, General Secretary Moazzem Hossain and Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapal, head of sponsor organization Cute, were present as special guests at the inaugural event, which was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Abdul Mannan.

 

Speaking as the chief guest, State Minister Aminul Haque said that the government is not limited to cricket or football to advance the country’s sports, but is working to develop all types of sports, including surfing. He said that many players have already been brought under the salary cap and financially weak federations are also being supported.

 

He also said that if surfers perform well at the international level, initiatives will be taken to bring them under the salary cap.

 

At the time, the chief guest, State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque, was presented with a crest by Bangladesh Surfing Association President Major General (Retd.) AKM Mujahid Uddin and Senior Vice President Khandaker Saiful Islam.

 

More than a hundred surfers are participating in three categories in this year’s competition, which those concerned hope will make the country’s surfing sport more popular and competitive.

 

Later, State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque laid the foundation stone of the building on the land provided for the Surfing Association in the Kalatali area. Cox’s Bazar-3 MP Lutfar Rahman Kajal, Bangladesh Surfing Association President Major General (Retd) AKM Mujahid Uddin, Senior Vice President Khandaker Saiful Islam, General Secretary Moazzem Hossain Rokon, and sponsor organization Cute’s CEO Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapal were present at the event.
